RULES: Each player of this game starts off with 10 weird things/habits/little known facts about yourself. People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 10 weird habits/things/little known facts as well as state this rule clearly. At the end you need to choose 10 people to be tagged and list their names. No tag backs. We only tag because we love.

1) I was adopted at age two months. The only things I know about my birth parents is that my mom was 18 and unmarried, and my ethnic heritage is supposedly Polish & Italian.

2) I was named after Gina Lollobrigida. For no good reason other than she was popular at the time and had an Italian name (Dad is Italian).

3) I hate being wet. As soon as possible after I get out of the bath/pool/ocean I completely dry off and blow dry my hair. The thought of having wet hair and water running down my back REALLY bothers me.

4) I had a phobia of seaweed/kelp and couldn't even touch it for many years. Until I dove the kelp forests in Monterey. Now the phobia is gone.

5) I have an over-developed sense of smell. I'm easily overwhelmed by strong scents. (Patchouli wearers need to die.)

6) I have absolutely no maternal instinct, at least not towards my own species.

7) I'm slightly OCD when it comes to organization. Things have to be in order. I'll often straighten items while waiting in line at the cash register.

8) I don't really care for monkeys. They look too much like people.

9) I began teaching myself to read at age 3.

10) I'm a high-school dropout. Well, technically I got kicked out.

I don't want to tag anyone, but I'd love to see your responses. Especially if you're one of those people who rarely posts anything about themselves. Yes, *you*

you clearly must tell us the story behind 10.

It's probably a pretty typical story - I hated high school, wasn't learning anything, didn't really like my friends. I discovered that I could skip classes, and if I had some extra babysitting money and could get someone to buy up for me, obtain intoxicating substances. I eventually got dropped from enough classes that I got kicked out of school.

The ironic thing is that now I love college and am learning a lot. And I never go to the bar on campus ;)

A marine biologist who hates being wet? Isn't that like a pilot who's acrophobic?

The funny thing is that I don't mind it if I'm in the water. Often when I'm diving I'll spend the rest period between dives swimming near the boat. But once I'm out of the water I'm done being wet.

I have the same thing. Also, water on counters (such as in a bathroom or kitchen) freaks me out.

Which I actually didn't even realize until just now. So, you know, I've learned something today...

I'm kinda bothered by water droplets on and around sinks, but this is a direct result of Applied Physics 9, where we got to make our own silicon chips. (As in, integrated circuits.) In the process, the chips were etched with hydrofluoric acid (HF), which is really creepy stuff: it will kill your nerves faster than they can react, so you never feel it... you just look down and notice a hole in your hand.

Using gloves merely made you overconfident (and led to a higher rate of injuries), so we went bare-handed just learned to be paranoid about little spilled droplets of what appeared to be water.

For many, many hours after each lab session, our hands would itch psychosomatically, and we'd be obsessively checking them every minute or so.

But it was an awful lot of fun, making chips. I still have mine around here somewhere..

Look who's talking! :)

Also, I just discovered what your LJ name means: "When you are working with true professionals, one of the best things to do is to ask them to choose for you. Japanese have a special word for it - "omakase"." Excellent!

:)

Yeah, it's like you're trusting the chef. I'm trying to tell myself to let things go and trust that things will still go well if I am not in control.
